COMMON PROBLEMS IN LINEN MANAGEMENT
Optimal linen management encompasses the strategic delivery of products to their intended destinations—precisely timed, in the correct quantities. Key responsibilities include setting and fine-tuning par levels, conducting meticulous linen inventories, establishing robust usage protocols, and imparting comprehensive linen awareness through tailored training and coaching initiatives.
Industry statistics reveal that annual hotel linen losses typically range between 5% and 20%.
Insufficient PAR Level – Insufficient par level to run daily operations causing additional cost for express wash and late delivery of clean rooms
Resupply and replacement – without accurate data facts and figures by providing percentage of losses, pilferage, stained, torn when request for linen replenishment
Linen Inventory – Unable to provide accurate inventory count in a short period of time with minimum manpower and efficiency (monthly/yearly).
Achieving KPIs – Difficulties in controlling linen cost leading to increasing losses and manpower.
Budget Restraints – A huge challenge is requesting for budgets when it comes to linen replacements due to the temporary closure of the tourism industry.
Occupancy Rates – Unable to determine when the occupancy rates will start to pick up which affects order arrivals, as linen replacements take a minimum of 2 months to arrive.
Staff Turnover – Retrenchment of staff due to the pandemic results in a loss off linen data.
